Join Together on this Historical Day - Veterans Memorial Park Dedication Ceremony - Saturday, November 11 at 11 am




This Saturday, November 11, 2017, is not only Veterans Day, but it's also the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.  No day is more perfectly-suited to the unveiling and rededication of the City of Lago Vista's Veterans Memorial Park as we join together in community to honor all who have so valiantly served whether in times of conflict or peace.


This day stirs the hearts of many of us here in Lago Vista. It is a day for recognition, a time for honoring, and an opportunity to recognize the meaning of commitment, pride, and sacrifice. Friends and families everywhere are encouraged to attend this once-in-a-lifetime ceremony that will stand as a great marker in the history of Lago Vista.


The ceremony includes:

  • Opening and Closing Remarks by Jim Speckmann, LtCol, USAF, Ret.
  • Special honors to POWs, Purple Heart Recipients, Medal of Honor Recipients, and surviving family members.
  • Posting of the Colors: Weapons Co, 1st Battalion, 23rd Marines, USMC
  • National Anthem performed by Jennifer Chiappone
  • Flyover: L-19/O-1 Bird Dog Formation
  • Invocation by Reverend Gary Olsen
  • Remarks by Mayor Dale Mitchell
  • Vietnam War Commemoration Event by Jim Speckmann, LtCol, USAF, Ret.
  • Service Song Medley by the Lago Vista High School Band
  • Taps performed by Lance Corporal Jameson Tidwell, USMC
  • Unveiling of public art piece, "Axis of Freedom" by Marley Porter
  • Viewing of bricks in the Pathway of Honor
