Ordinances & Resolutions
Resolutions and Ordinances are used by the City Council to take formal action on a subject. However, not every action of the Council will require one.
Resolutions are formal statements of the cumulative will of the City Council. They can be oral, written, ceremonial or have contractual significance.
Ordinances are more formal and authoritative than resolutions. Ordinances are usually laws enacted by the City Council to grant formal approval to certain policies or establish regulations. They are usually required to regulate people or property. They are required to pass regulations which violators may be punished.
